KANA RUNES

KANA RUNES is a simple game for practicing Japanese hiragana and katakana, made for the Kenney Jam 24 with the theme "connection". This game is not intended to entirely teach anyone hiragana or katakana, just to help with memorisation.

In the game mode, you must connect the hiragana along the top row, and the katakana along the bottom row, with their Romanised pronunciations in the centre row. Do this by simply pressing (clicking or tapping) on any rune, and then pressing on the rune it needs to be connected to. By pressing the "check" button in the top-right, you will see which of your connections were correct and which were incorrect. Either press "next" to go on to the next level (with more runes on higher levels), or "quit" to go to the results screen. The results screen will show you which hiragana and katakana you answered incorrectly, though it will not show which ones you didn't answer.

Known Issues:

• The online version runs poorly at times. This is a mix of poor optimisation on my part, and pygbag generally making online versions of PyGame projects slower than downloadable versions. Playing the downloadable version is preferable, however the online version is still fully playable.
• The online version has some sound effect issues. This is entirely an issue with pygbag and cannot be fixed. As above, playing the downloadable version is preferable, however the online version is still fully playable.
• Windows will call the downloadable version a virus when you try to run it. I don't know why it does this, it happens for all the PyGame exe files I make. Either ignore the warning, or play the online version.
• If you change the window size on the downloadable version, the mouse position on-screen and its position used in-game don't match.
